25 states, 23 shows, 26 days and finally closing in on the end of this tour. Arizona this week and then bringin it all back home with 3 nights in Boise, ID Nov 1st-3rd. Cant wait honestly. This year has been so up and down but maybe I'm just getting older? I dont know anymore. Just keep telling myself to keep going. Like that Richmond Fontaine song "Ya can't go back if theres nothing to go back to". New songs are evolving and finally comfortable though. Band is tighter than ever. Saw a few sunrises. Slept in some incredibly awful hotels. Got a tour of the lower east side of NYC from a guy named "KO" and closed down a few dive bars. Had some laughs about the stereotypes Idaho has somehow acquired and he had some bizarre stories of what it was like growing up black and gay in small town Georgia. Fell in love with a girl for a night in Boston after too many tequilas and old fashioned's and she told me I had too many red flags before we made out in an alley. Met a younger guy named Justin in Lubbock that told me a song of mine "hotel bibles" helped him get through a horrible break up the month before and how grateful he was that we came and played in his town. Invited my ex girlfriend to the show in Nashville and immediately regretted it as I was talking to her at the bar and realizing how much better off she is without me. Bought a pack of cigarettes and walked around our old neighborhood remembering how different it all felt 6 months ago. Everytime I think I'm starting to get a grasp on this whole experiment we're living out...I'm always one conversation away from seeing things completely different. Guess that's why I love being out here. And from an Irish bar in Gettysburg, PA to the back corner of a hole in the wall bar in Jersey City, NJ to the legendary (to me at least) Saxon Pub in Austin, TX to an old miners Bar in Bisbee, AZ it feels like we've played every type of joint you could possibly play on this tour. Being inside this music with this band has become a pretty special place over the past month though and I'm so fucking grateful to have these guys. This band. Anyways, 8 hours and I'm gonna find a good dive bar in El Paso for the night off.
Dear Senator Cornyn, Thank you kindly for taking the time to evaluate my proposition in support of global education and equality for girls and women. However, you brought in a few details that seem to have been altered by fact and not in alignment with my initial outreach. Let me remind you, respectively: You brought up Iran. In 1975 just four years before the Revolution, fewer than 30% of Iranian women were literate. In 2015 that number was over 80%, nearly on par with male literacy. Over the past decade, women in higher education institutions have constituted at least 50% of the Iranian population, and more than 60% of those who passed the national examination for university entrance were FEMALE. In my travels abroad, I can EASILY say that Iranian girls have displayed a level of education in primary and secondary schools (leading into their acceptance into college) that exemplify some of the most advanced educational studies I have yet to see accomplished in other Western countries. In my country America (I love!!!), even I did not learn Calculus until high school, though these girls learned far before secondary education. Secondly, I propose that we add Saudi Arabia to the list of “oppressed” countries if we are truly manipulating my mission to more than educational enhancement. Saudi Arabia STILL puts men in charge of their female relatives. Under this “guardianship system”, Saudi women MUST get permission from male chaperones to travel, to STUDY!!!!!, and to marry. In most cases as well, domestic abuse is difficult to report and rarely ever punished. Punishment on the streets are far more torturous and tyrannical by their regime. This is an OPPRESSIVE government, should we get honest. Thanks again for your reply for supporting girl education worldwide! I TRULY believe in global EDUCATION for ALL girls and children, and I WILL NOT devalue the countries and areas working diligently to encourage their girls to prosper. May we work better together to enhance statistics and encourage our youth, our girls and women, to not only succeed in education but excel in all areas, as our females are so powerful! Thank you, Sara Alavi

Everywhere I go people give me shit about Porpy. It doesn’t bug me but I always feel like I gotta stick up for her. People assume because of the diminutive stature that she’s some kind of worthless lap dog and it really couldn’t be further from the truth. The whole point of having a dog is having a companion and this dog has been more places than some humans. Planes, trains, boats, motorcycles and automobiles, you name it and she’s been along for the ride just happy to be a part of the pack. You get a dog to match your lifestyle and this pocket pooch of mine fits mine and my travels. @porpy_loves_lettuce
